Two T&T nationals and 10 foreigners were detained during an anti-crime exercise at the Los Iros Beach Facility last night (Saturday 10th August, 2019).
The TTPS says based on information, officers from the Santa Flora Police Station and South Western Division Task Force went to the area around 8:30pm.
When they arrived, they saw 10 persons exiting from a vessel close to the shoreline which then sped off.
The individuals started running towards an apartment building located nearby and a man and woman were seen assisting them inside.
The officers approached, identified themselves and sought to get the names and addresses of the ten persons but none could speak English.
The Police Service says they were also unable to produce documentation stating that they entered the country illegally.
As a result, the foreigners and locals were detained and taken to the Erin Police Station pending inquiries of illegally entering the country and human trafficking.
