There is still a high incidence of violence against women, including female Venezuelan migrants, in T&T.
This is the belief of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar on the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
She is pleased to see law enforcement taking a tough stance on this issue, uncovering human trafficking rings involving these migrant women and well as children, and arresting perpetrators.
However, she says there are women who are still subjected daily to verbal and physical assaults, with cases going unreported due to fear of victimization or further violence.
The UNC Leader believes T&T stand in support of the women who are speaking out against their attackers and for those who cannot.
