Mrs Bridgid Annisette-George does not have support from the opposition UNC to return as Speaker of the House of Representatives and is being told to withdraw as a nominee.

The party expressed its disapproval through a letter written by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to Parliament.

She claims that on several occasions during the last parliamentary term, Mrs Annisette-George affected her party’s ability to effectively contribute to debates by curtailing contributions, forcing premature ends to contributions and breaching parliamentary principles.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar warns that the opposition has the right to approach the court but is hoping that good sense prevails.

Parliament resumes at 10:30AM after dissolving in July for the 2020 General Election.
