The National Security Ministry will refurbish a workshop space at the Youth Training Centre to have better control and security of young offenders.
During a JSC meeting this morning, Permanent Secretary Vel Lewis says as part of the rehabilitation program, YTC trainees are often sent to centres such as MIC and YTEPP, however this carries certain security and control challenges.
Deputy Prisons Commissioner Dane Clarke says in some instances, youths were found with marijuana in their possession.
Because of this, Mr Lewis says the proposal to refurbish the space was discussed.
There are currently 81 boys and 12 girls enrolled at the Youth Training Centre.
