Alex Morgan scores 5 as USA break Women’s World Cup scoring record

    Defending champions USA scored a 13 times as they beat Thailand in their opening 2019 Women’s World Cup game.

    The result set new records for the biggest margin of victory and most goals in a game.

    Alex Morgan netted 5 times, tying tournament and team records set by Michelle Akers against Chinese Taipei in 1991.

    The USA had 40 shots in total, 20 on target and 73% possession while Thailand, who didn’t score, managed just 2 shots in all – both were on target.
