A magnificent performance from Carlos Brathwaite but the West Indies dropped just short of victory against New Zealand.
He played a masterclass innings as they chased 291, which included a well-played century from Kane Williamson (148).
Brathwaite’s 101 from 82 deliveries brought the Windies within one over and 5 runs off their target but he fell in the final ball of the penultimate over.
Speaking after the match, he said it was heart-breaking to get so close but not get over the line.
However, Brathwaite noted some positives saying the lower order should be commended especially for the fact that they put up a good fight.
Despite the loss, he said his hard work finally paid off and he is grateful for the performance and getting the team to a position where they had a chance to win.
Brathwaite said the only thought in his mind at that point was to find a way to get it done.
Unfortunately, that was not to be as New Zealand came out victorious and now top the table with 11 points, while Australia is second on 10.
The West Indies are in 7th position with three points.
Their next match is against India on Thursday 27th June, 2019.
