The much anticipated return of cricket was literally dampened today by persistent rain at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Only 17.4 overs were possible, as action bowled off between the West Indies and England.
England dug in after stand-in captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bat, with the home side on 35/1 at stumps.
Shannon Gabriel took the only wicket to fall – he bowled Dom Sibley for 0 in the 2nd over.
The match began with a kneeling show of support for the Global Black Lives Matter Movement.
There was also a minute’s silence for COVID-19 victims and West Indies great Sir Everton Weekes, who died last week at the age of 95.
