Iker Casillas announces retirement from football

Over a year after suffering a heart attack during training, former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas has retired from football.

The Spaniard’s decorated career included a 16-year stint at Real where he played 725 games and won three Champions League titles and five La Liga trophies.

He was also part of Spain’s winning World Cup squad in 2010 and helped his country win Euro 2008 and 2012.

Since 2015, he has been with Portuguese side Porto where he was given a coaching role after his cardiac episode in April 2019.
