Dinesh Karthik has apologized to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his recent attendance of a Caribbean Premier League game.
Karthik was shown to be in the TKR dressing room, in a TKR jersey, next to TKR coach Brendon McCullum.
He subsequently received the notice from the BCCI since his national contract stipulates that he cannot participate, in any capacity, in a league besides the IPL without a No Objection certificate from the BCCI.
According to Cricbuzz, Karthik explained that while he was there on the invitation of KKR’s newly appointed head coach Brendon McCullum, he did not participate in any way:
“At the outset, I wish to state that I have not participated in Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in any capacity. My coming to Trinidad was at the invitation of the newly appointed head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders Mr McCullum, who also happens to be the head coach of TKR. He felt that it will be useful for me as captain of KKR, to come for some discussions with him in regard to KKR.”
Karthik captains Kolkata Knight Riders, the IPL franchise that shares owners with Trinbago Knight Riders.
He went on to say:
“I wish to tender my unconditional apology for not seeking permission from BCCI to embarking on this visit. I sincerely request this oversight be excused.”
