Former West Indies cricketer, Phil Simmons, will step down as Afghanistan head coach, following the 2019 World Cup.

Simmons has guided an in-form team to the tournament after winning last year’s qualifying competition in Zimbabwe.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, he is satisfied that he completed the objective he was given – getting the team to the grandest stage of international cricket.

He tells Cricinfo, “I have thought about it and I have actually given the ACB my notice that I will not be renewing my contract. I will move on to something different once my contract expires on July 15th.”
