Red Force declaration backfires – Barbados wins

After declaring on 247/6 late on Day 3, Red Force skipper Denesh Ramdin gave the Barbados Pride a score of 324 to chase on the final day.

What he hoped for was the T&T bowlers taking 10 wickets before Barbados reached anywhere close to the target. Instead, Barbados found themselves only 6 wickets down, and on the other side of the chase.

Following their magnificent victory in the previous match, the Red Force were in control of this one against Barbados, securing a first innings lead of 76 runs, after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Lendl Simmons brought his skill to the fore, scoring 138 runs on his return after four years, and he added 65 runs in the second innings.

But the Bajan batsmen were too good on Day 4, as Jonathon Carter struck an unbeaten century (149*) to defy the Red Force bowlers, and Shamar Springer added 66 runs.

Daniel St.Clair took 2 wickets for T&T, while Ravi Rampaul, Imran Khan, Bryan Charles and Yannic Cariah got one each, but more wickets were needed.

The Red Force are last on the Regional Four Day table, and with three games left in the season, there’s no chance of making the top three.

Elsewhere, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes defeated the Windward Islands Volcanoes by 12 runs and, the Guyana Jaguars defeated the Jamaica Scorpions by 7 wickets.
