West Indies and South Africa share points in rain hit match

The West Indies were forced to share points with South Africa today after rain washed out their match in Southampton.

The Windies won the toss and sent their rivals in to bat first.

They quickly gained the upper hand – Sheldon Cottrell dismissed opener Hashim Amla and #3 batsman Aidan Markram to leave the South Africans reeling on 29/2 after 7.3 overs.

The rains then came and fell persistently, eventually forcing the umpires to abandon the encounter.

Both teams walk away with one point each, and for South Africa, it is their first point of the tournament, having lost all three of their previous encounters.

The Windies meanwhile now have three points from three matches.
